Congratulating her on "the brilliant success of your sons first literary essay. I am quite astonished and so I am sure will every one to whom you may impart the secret. It was universally attributed to you. Three or four college men, including Mr Brady & Mr Tyrrell both spoke of it to me as yours & praised its ability highly. I should be glad to have your sons aid occasionally, but it would not do to accept it without remuneration, and the misery of this office under its present management is that I cannot induce Mr H. Potts to pay for contributions of this nature the value of which he does not appreciate the way I do ..."
